FRESCO
A mural painting technique in which pigments, dispersed in water, are applied to a fresh,
wet lime-putty plaster surface. The pigments are absorbed into the wet plaster where they
become locked into the matrix of the plaster wall as it dries. It is very permanent with a matte
appearance best suited to broad, simple forms. The technique is of ancient origins brought to
refinement during the Italian Renaissance.
